About David And Barbering With Passion
My aha! moment in terms of where I wanted to take my passion for barbering happened around 16 years ago, while still in barber college.
Back in those years I saw a lot of apathy going on around schools and shops alike. Students showing up to class going “through the motions” anxious to get out into the real world to make money, but lacking the necessary skills and enthusiasm needed to be successful.
I knew back than that if I wanted to make a difference I needed to start with the one thing I could control, my own skills.
I dedicated my life to learn as much as I could outside of barber school, looking for ways to expand my skills, making mistakes along the way, improving the techniques that helped me grow into the barber I am today.
During my ten years as a barbershop owner in Phoenix AZ, I made it my mission to teach new barbers the true art of the barbering craft, while perfecting my own skills behind the chair and later while working as a master barber and trainer.
The main thing I urged all students and professional barbers was to never underestimate the power of a great barber service.
Someone once wrote:
“a barber can either rob you of your confidence in a minute with a bad haircut or shave, thus ruining your life for the next two months until your hair grows back, OR he can make you look and feel like a million dollars in an instant”
I addressed the fact that even though -for many years- barbering had been viewed simply as a vocation it was up to all of us as barbers to do everything within our power to make a change.
That is why TGBarber -the True Gentlemen’s Barber- was created; To be able share and demonstrate my philosophy about the true art of barbering, the importance of having passion for the craft, of continuing education, discipline, responsibility and above all, professionalism.
